According to Taiwan Economic Daily News, agency data show that from 2022 to 2025, the world will build 41 fabs, equivalent to the current total number of 12-inch factories in Taiwan.
Among them, TSMC, Samsung, as well as Intel, Micron, Texas Instruments and other major investment in the United States under the expansion of the next three years, the United States added the largest number of new fabs, up to nine, including eight 12-inch factory and an 8-inch factory.

Analysts pointed out that, due to the growth in demand for semiconductor applications and geopolitical factors, global fab expansion wave 2022 to 2025 is expected to start construction of 41 new plants, but also generated more carbon footprint, the semiconductor industry must improve high power consumption, high carbon emissions and other issues.
Aaccording to SEMI report, 2021 to 2025, the global semiconductor manufacturers 8-inch fab capacity is expected to increase by 20%. Among them, automotive and power semiconductor fab capacity will lead the growth rate of 58%, followed by MEMS growth of 21%, foundry growth of 20%, analog growth of 14%.
