Flex Power Modules has now launched the BMR320, a non-isolated, unregulated DC-DC intermediate bus converter with a fixed 8:1 input/output voltage ratio in a compact form factor.
Operating over a 40-60 VDC input voltage range and producing an output voltage of 5 to 7.5 VDC, it is ideally suited to powering point-of-load converters at lower intermediate bus voltages to optimise system efficiency. Rated at 400 W/60 A at an input voltage of 54 V, the BMR320 achieves an excellent power density of 128 W/cm3 (2126 W/in3) in a small footprint of 27 x 18 x 6.4 mm. Peak efficiency is 97.7% and up to three units can be connected in parallel to achieve a total load of 1080 W. Suitable for top cooling the heat sink with airflow or liquid cooling via a thermal block, the converter's relatively flat top design allows you to easily connect the heat sink surfaces via heat transfer materials such as thermal pads. The unregulated, non-isolated architecture used in the BMR320 reduces the output impedance of the converter compared to a regulated design, allowing efficient feedback of the input bus capacitance to the output, enhancing its ability to cope with large load transients with minimal 'sag voltage'. The BMR320's protection features include output current limit and overvoltage protection, as well as overtemperature and input undervoltage protection. The product also has a PMBusTM interface for easy monitoring, which is partly supported by the Flex Power Designer Tool. Anders Sellin, Strategic Product Manager at Flex Power Modules, commented: "The BMR320 Intermediate Bus Converter is designed for optimal system efficiency when used with point load converters and integrated power level products such as our BMR510 and the upcoming BMR515. It is an excellent solution for data communications, cloud computing and artificial intelligence applications where power density, efficiency and low cost are key factors." The product will be available in OEM lots by the end of this year.
