Recently, leading companies in the silicon carbide (SiC) industry, such as Wolfspeed and ON Semiconductor, have disclosed their latest production expansion plans. Among them, Wolfspeed announced that it will build the world's largest silicon carbide material plant, aiming to increase the company's silicon carbide material capacity in North Carolina by more than 10 times; ON Semiconductor plans to expand its silicon carbide substrate capacity by four times this year, and its new plant for producing silicon carbide devices was completed in August, which will enable ON Semiconductor to increase its SiC wafer capacity by five times year-on-year by the end of 2022. For the expansion, both companies said that downstream demand for silicon carbide is strong and that the demand for capacity is expected to continue to outstrip supply.
Benefiting from downstream boom applications such as new energy vehicles, photovoltaics and rail transportation, the global SiC power device market is expanding. According to Yole's forecast, the global SiC power device market is expected to grow from US$1,090 million to US$6,297 million from 2021-2027, maintaining an average annual compound growth rate of 34%. The market is expected to grow from US$685 million in 2021 to US$4,986 million in 2027, with a CAGR of 39.2%. At present, the domestic silicon carbide module on board is progressing smoothly, including BYD, Geely, EAN and other mass production models have been equipped with the main drive inverter module provided by the domestic silicon carbide module supplier, the domestic SiC industry chain listed companies are expected to fully benefit, suggesting that the focus on Tanyue advanced, Tony Electronics, etc.
