At the recent Microsoft Build 2023 conference, Microsoft and Intel teamed up to showcase the artificial intelligence features of Intel's upcoming next-generation PC processor (codenamed Meteor Lake). Both parties stated that they will fully utilize the unique advantages of the next-generation processor's separate modular architecture to provide PC users with new AI driven features, including multimedia features such as automatic re composition and scene editing detection in Adobe Premiere Pro, and achieve more effective machine learning acceleration.
The next-generation PC processor, Meteor Lake, is designed based on the "Chip" system on chip (SoC), allowing Intel to bring more advanced intellectual property and cutting-edge manufacturing processes, bringing stronger performance and lower energy consumption to related field applications. This makes Meteor Lake Intel's first PC platform with built-in neural network visual computing module (VPU). This module is a specialized AI engine directly integrated on SoC, which enables the system to efficiently run AI models. The new neural network visual computing module (VPU), combined with powerful AI accelerators supported on Intel's multi generation CPU and GPU products, will revolutionize the PC experience.
Developers based on the Meteor Lake processor will also be able to achieve higher machine learning efficiency by accelerating the neural network visual computing module (VPU) and GPU to run machine learning more efficiently on WinML/DirectML; Microsoft Studio effects: including background blur, eye tracking automatic framing, voice focusing, and more.
In the next year, Intel plans to ship millions of PC products equipped with Meteor Lake processors with dedicated AI engines.
