The current iPad Air, released in 2022, is powered by Apple's M1 chip, making it a powerful tablet that can handle almost any challenge, but its successor model is said to be better in every way. According to the latest reports, Apple is preparing an updated version that will have updated specs, and for the most part, almost everyone knows what this year's major upgrade will be.
Apple hasn't made any major changes to the iPad lineup this year, but the iPad Air will likely still use the M2 chip. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said in his Power On newsletter that he thinks a new tablet is in development and could launch later this year. Considering how Apple used an M1 chip in the iPad Air5, it's not surprising to see the company use the M2 in the newer model, but other than that, we expect other specs to remain the same, but at this stage, adding anything extra is likely to reduce returns. We should get the same body as last year's model, as well as a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD panel, which probably won't get support for the 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate. Customers who want to experience this smooth and creamy ProMotion technology will have to spend more and upgrade to any iPad Pro model available. We also believe that the maximum internal storage and 8GB of RAM supported on the new iPad Air will remain the same, so it may be aimed at those who haven't bought a powerful iPad yet but want to avoid entering iPad Pro price territory. The only other notable upgrade we've seen on the iPad Air 6 is support for Wi-Fi6E, a wireless adapter that exists on the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. As for the price, Gurman didn't reveal that detail either, but given the global situation and Apple raising the price of the iPad 10 without giving it enough upgrades, the new iPad Air may be slightly more expensive than its predecessor. Fortunately, the introduction of the new tablet means the 2022 version will get a bigger price cut, making the new iPad Air affordable for more people.
