On March 5, SBS Biz, the financial news channel of South Korea's SBS television station, said yesterday that Sony Corporation of Japan, the world's largest image sensor market share, and Samsung Electronics, the second largest company, were negotiating business cooperation plans.
Industry insiders revealed that Yoshihiro Yoshida, president and CEO of Sony Group, will visit Samsung Electronics Pingze Park on the 6th to meet with Kei Hsien, head of Samsung Electronics DS (semiconductor) department. It is revealed that a total of 5 to 6 executives from both sides will participate in this private meeting, and it is expected to discuss the specific plans for semiconductor supply and related cooperation. It is reported that after the trip to Pingze Park, the two sides will also go to the Tian'an and Wenyang parks of Samsung Electronics, which are responsible for semiconductor packaging. The industry speculated that this meeting might mention the cooperation of ultra-precision wafer manufacturing process or image sensor. Samsung Electronics plans to expand the manufacturing process of automotive semiconductor to 4nm, while Sony will enter the electric vehicle market through the new company Sony Mobility. Sony's image sensor factory will not only supply mobile phones in the future. In addition, Sony also announced plans to expand the supply of image sensors for cars and mobile devices by expanding the factory. As we all know, in the field of image processing technology, CMOS chips have largely replaced the traditional CCD chips. With the development of more modern chip technology in recent years, Sony and Samsung, as one of the largest CMOS chip manufacturers, are also playing an increasingly important role in it. Besides cameras, video production equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles and other consumer equipment, they also involve the industrial and security fields.
