Small Scale Mergers and Acquisitions are Emerging in the Semiconductor Industry

Accenture, a consulting firm, recently analyzed that with the reduction of large-scale M & A targets, semiconductor enterprises need to re-examine the value of small-scale M & A.
According to Accenture's analysis, since 2021, the proportion of large-scale M & A transactions in the semiconductor industry has declined, and the acquirers’ management team needs to adapt to the challenges brought by smaller and more transactions.
Accenture points out that small mergers and acquisitions can provide three advantages:
First, acquire characteristic technologies and supplement the technology stack of the acquirer; Second, optimize the operation efficiency. Semiconductor enterprises can optimize the overall operation efficiency through the acquisition of hardware (new office facilities) and software (market resources and internal systems); Third, enhance the potential of human capital. Through mergers and acquisitions, we can obtain niche product experts and innovative talents to help enterprises improve their insight into specific industries.
Accenture also suggests that the primary task of enterprises in small mergers and acquisitions is to avoid cultural conflicts and internal friction, which can be achieved through better incentives, greater operational autonomy, and more prudent transaction due diligence and evaluation.
