According to the latest mobile component technology (HCT) service report released by Strategy Analytics, the global tablet application processor (AP) market reached US $3 billion in 2021, with a year-on-year increase of 12%. In the revenue pie chart, Apple led the market with 62% revenue share, while MediaTek maintained a leading position in non-iPad tablet computer shipments.
In the report of Tablet Apps Processor Market Share Tracker Q4 2021: MediaTek Maintains non-iPad Market Share Leadership, Apple, Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek and Samsung LSI occupied the top five positions in tablet computer AP revenue share in 2021. Apple leads the tablet AP market with 62% revenue share, followed by Intel with 12% and Qualcomm with 10%. The report also mentioned that in 2021, Arm based tablets accounted for 89% of the total tablet AP shipments. Driven by better combination and wafer supply constraints, ASP of tablet AP increased by 21% year-on-year.
Sravan Kundojjala, director of mobile component technology services at Strategy Analytics, commented that the tablet application processor (AP) market is a key part of the mobile computing market. After a rebound in 2020, it fell by 8% year-on-year in 2021. Lower demand for low-end tablet AP and wafer supply constraints affected shipments. However, compared with the pre epidemic period (2019), shipments increased by 13%. Despite the decline in shipments, due to the high combination of high-end tablet computer APS, the average selling price (ASP) in the tablet computer AP market increased by double digits.
Shipments of Apple, MediaTek and Unisoc increased, while shipments of Allwinner, Hisilicon, Qualcomm, Rockchip and Samsung LSI decreased in 2021. Driven by the design wins of Amazon, Lenovo, Samsung and other companies, MediaTek maintained its leading position in the non Apple tablet computer AP market. On the other hand, Qualcomm shifted its focus to high-end tablet computers, with shipments declining by 15% in 2021.
