A new report from Strategy Analytics shows the consumer AR endpoint market revenue tripling in size between 2020 and 2021. nreal is an early leader in this space, with shipments reaching 75% market share in 2021 and rising to 81% in the first half of 2022.
Strategy Analytics forecasts that the global market for dedicated AR headsets will ship close to 60 million units by 2027," said David MacQueen, executive director of Strategy Analytics and author of the report. Shipments will grow 161% year-over-year between 2020 and 2021. During the same period, consumer AR headset revenue growth outpaces the overall market, growing more than 300 percent year-over-year." The report says the consumer AR market is being driven by newcomer Nreal, which has found the best balance of price ($599) and functionality. In 2021, Nreal will have a 75% share of consumer AR endpoint shipments, and by the first half of 2022, its market share will rise to 81%, giving it a strong position in the early consumer AR market. One of the reasons for this market position is that through its technology approach, Nreal has brought the price of AR hardware down to an acceptable level for consumers. The company now has a global presence, working with eight operators in seven countries on three continents. Nreal, which focuses on AR, was founded in January 2017, and its website describes the use of AR technology to superimpose augmented digital images on the real world. Based on this, users can wear two of Nreal's eyewear products, Light or Air, to access AR applications such as games or movies. It is worth mentioning that on March 30 of this year, Nreal announced the completion of a $60 million Series C+ funding round led by Alibaba.
