Volkswagen, Horizon to set up joint venture in China, says news

The Volkswagen Group plans to invest €2 billion in China to set up a software joint venture with Horizon in order to further enhance its digital and intelligent competitiveness, achieve technological independence and secure the supply of its smart driving software and chips, according to German manager magazine.
Last week it was announced that VW would set up a joint venture with a domestic company, although the amount reported at the time was more than €1 billion. Regarding VW's round of smart driving bids in China, it has been quite exciting since the beginning of the year involving a number of star companies including Huawei, DJI Automotive and Horizon. According to public information, Beijing Horizon Robotics is an automotive smart chip company in China, which develops chips involving deep learning technology and has self-developed edge AI chips and solutions that are both extremely effective and open and easy to use, and the company is also the first company in China to achieve front-end mass production of automotive-grade smart chips. Horizon currently has key customer relationships with top OEMs and Tier1s in all four major automotive markets (US, Germany, Japan and China).
