TechInsights: Global Smartphone Shipments Down 0.3% in Q3 2023, Huawei up 44% Year-over-year

According to the latest data released by TechInsights, global smartphone shipments in Q3 2023 amounted to 296 million units, a year-on-year decline of 0.3%, which is the ninth consecutive quarter of annual decline in smartphone sales.

Samsung shipped 59.5 million units, with a market share of 20%, down 7.6% year-over-year;
Apple shipped 46.6 million units, with a market share of 15.7% and a year-on-year decline of 3.9%;
Xiaomi shipped 41.5 million units, with a market share of 14.0%, up 2.5% year-on-year;
OPPO shipped 27.7 million units, with a market share of 9.3%, down 5.8% year-on-year;

Among the remaining brands, Vivo ranked sixth in the list, with its smartphone shipments declining 17 percent year-on-year in Q3 2023; Honor Mobile benefited from a strong performance in the Chinese market, with a 5 percent market share in the quarter; realme maintained its eighth position, with a market share of nearly 5 percent in the quarter; Lenovo-Motorola ranked ninth in the quarter, with a market share of 4 percent, an increase of 11 percent year-on-year; and Huawei ranked 10th in the list, with a 4 percent market share in the quarter. Lenovo-Motorola ranked ninth with 4 percent market share in the quarter, up 11 percent year-over-year, and Huawei ranked 10th on the list, with shipments up 44 percent year-over-year. TechInsights said that the annual decline (in smartphones) has slowed dramatically, from -8 percent in the previous quarter to -0.3 percent in the current quarter, suggesting that it may have bottomed out and is poised for a modest rebound in 2024. Combined with normal inventory levels and improving end-user demand, as well as new product release cycles from major vendors such as Samsung and Apple, the global smartphone market has stabilized in the quarter. It is worth noting that eight of the top ten smartphone brands globally are Chinese, with five vendors - Xiaomi, Transsion, Honor, Lenovo-Motorola and Huawei - achieving positive annual growth rates, and all of these Chinese brands combined achieving a 5% annual growth rate.
